From appropriate actions to take to keeping a DMV Accident Report form on hand,  use this information to stay prepared and navigate a collision. 

We suggest printing out and storing a DMV Accident Report in your car. In many cases, the DMV requires you to submit this report within 72 hours of a collision. Having it with you at the scene of the accident will help ensure that you’re gathering all the essential details. If you get into an accident, stop your vehicle and move it to the side of the road. Next, contact the police and report any injuries that have occurred. As you begin recording information about the accident, keep in mind that you don’t want to admit fault for the accident. Let your insurance company speak on your behalf when it comes to discussing responsibility.

While you are at the scene of the accident, make sure to record the names, contact information, and vehicle information of the other drivers—also, record accident details like where and when the collision happened. Collect pictures of the scene, sketch it out, or record a voice memo describing the accident in your own words.
